WHAT IS BAWSAQ

ROBINHOOD CHAIN

BAWSAQ is the stock exchange from Grand Theft Auto. In the game, the price of every ticker moved off what the whole player base was doing, and in 2013 players figured that out and started coordinating to pump names like Ammu-Nation. The site itself told you to embrace the time honored tradition of insider trading and corporate espionage. Rockstar built a market that ran on collusion and called it a feature.

We built the real one on Robinhood Chain. Every ticker from the Los Santos board is here, with the same company descriptions, and you can trade all of them. $BAWSAQ is the exchange token. Every trade on every ticker pays a fee, and every fee buys $BAWSAQ and burns it.

EIGHTEEN YEARS OF CANON

Before it had a chain, BAWSAQ was a running joke inside the biggest crime saga ever made. Three cities, three console generations, and an exchange that was never supposed to be real. Four files, in order.

  1. FILE 01 / 04 LIBERTY CITY
    2008

    THE FAKE NASDAQ

    Grand Theft Auto IV came out in April 2008. One of the sites you could open on the in-game internet was bawsaq.com, a stock exchange for Liberty City with a name that sounds like ball sack, on purpose. That September Lehman went under and the real market lost about half its value over the next six months. Nobody at Rockstar planned the timing. It just worked out that way, and the site stayed up.

    2013

    PLAYERS RAN THE MARKET

    GTA V split the market in two. LCN moved off your own single player story. BAWSAQ ran through Rockstar Social Club, so every player on every console was pushing the same prices around at once. Within weeks of launch people were organizing on forums to buy the same stock on the same day and sell into whoever showed up late. The site had basically told them to. Its own copy described insider trading and corporate espionage as a time honored tradition.

    2026

    THE REAL NASDAQ

    GTA VI ships November 19, 2026. The publisher is Take-Two Interactive, ticker TTWO, listed on the NASDAQ. So the studio that has spent eighteen years making fun of the exchange reports its earnings to it every quarter, and the biggest game launch there has ever been is going to land in those numbers. On Robinhood Chain that same stock trades as a token, T2, any hour you want.

It runs on Pons, so there is no server of ours behind it and nothing for us to switch off. $BAWSAQ is the exchange token, paired against T2.
